A decorative late Victorian country house dinner gong, consisting of a large circular brass gong suspended within a finely constructed oak frame.
The frame is formed with two ring-turned uprights topped by rounded finials and joined by a spindled gallery above a shaped and panelled apron. The gong is suspended from the upper rail by cord, allowing it to resonate freely when struck.
A padded beater hangs conveniently from one side of the frame. The lower section has a substantial cross-stretcher and four shaped feet, providing a stable base while retaining an elegant appearance.
