A finely crafted early 20th century caned settee in the Louis XVI revival manner, constructed in richly toned walnut and of elegant, gently bowed form. The continuous serpentine frame is crisply carved, featuring a bead-and-reel moulding to the seat rail and a refined guilloche-style border along the top rail, highlighting the warmth and figure of the timber.
The scrolling arms terminate in tight volutes with foliate carving, while the uprights are decorated with fluting and beaded detail, reinforcing the restrained neoclassical character. The back and sides are enclosed with finely hand-woven cane panels of even gauge and good condition, lending both structural strength and visual lightness.
The settee retains a loose seat cushion upholstered in a pale green damask, its subtle pattern complementing the depth of the walnut frame. It stands on four turned and fluted tapering legs, terminating in neat turned feet, with carved rosette blocks to the front corners providing a decorative transition between rail and leg.
