A fine and impressive 19th century giltwood oval wall mirror of substantial proportions, retaining a wonderfully elegant design inspired by the Georgian period. The richly decorated frame is adorned with a repeating band of oval mouldings enclosed by beaded borders, whilst the inner edge is pierced with a continuous series of scalloped arches, creating a striking play of light and shadow around the mirror plate. The frame is further enhanced by a carved shell crest to the top and a decorative foliate and rosette cartouche to the base.
Beautifully proportioned and finished in a warm gilded surface, the mirror possesses excellent decorative presence and would make a superb focal point in a hallway, drawing room, bedroom or above a mantelpiece.
