A very attractive and finely made Victorian mahogany pedestal desk of excellent colour and proportions, retaining its original tooled leather writing surface with gilt decoration throughout. The desk stands on two banks of four graduated drawers, with a further central frieze drawer above the kneehole, all fitted with turned mahogany knob handles and working locks.
The richly figured mahogany timbers have developed a wonderfully warm patina, complemented by the crisply carved Gothic influenced corner mouldings and the bold rope twist moulded edge surrounding the top. The sides are fully panelled, allowing the desk to stand freely within a room if desired, while the reverse is finished with a polished modesty panel.
Raised on shaped bracket feet.
