A highly decorative set of eight Irish George II style carved mahogany dining chairs, comprising six single chairs and a pair of matching armchairs. Exceptionally well made, each chair features an elaborately pierced and carved splat back with flowing foliate and scroll decoration, the shaped cresting rails richly carved throughout with acanthus and shell motifs in the Rococo taste.
The generously proportioned seats have recently been upholstered in a striking mustard gold velvet fabric, providing an attractive contrast against the rich mahogany frames. The armchairs retain elegant scrolling arms with shaped supports, whilst all chairs stand on finely carved cabriole legs terminating in bold ball and claw feet. Further carved detail can be seen to the knees and shaped seat rails, adding to the quality and depth of the carving throughout the set.
